Lansdowne Road to be renamed

By Tom Walker    07 Sep 2007

The famous Lansdowne Road Stadium in Dublin will have a different name when it reopens in 2010.

The owners of the stadium, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU), will sell the naming rights of the stadium to the highest bidder.

It is believed that any such deal would be agreed for an initial period of 15 years and could earn the IRFU and the Football Association of Ireland up to 75m euro (£51m).

Work is currently underway to transform the stadium into a 50,000-capacity, all-seater venue.

The new 250m euro (£170m) stadium is scheduled to open for business by summer 2010.
