MAPA's Sacromonte Landscape Hotel blends into the surrounding landscape
A Uruguayan hotel and winery has been designed to disappear into its surroundings with a creative mirrored exterior design.
The Sacromonte Landscape Hotel sits in a 250-acre mountain range between Punta del Este, José Ignacio and Pueblo Garzón. Designed by MAPA Architects, it comprises 13 hotel cabins, a winery and a farm, which provides food for the restaurant.
The 13 cabins were prefabricated in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo, and assembled on-site with minimal disruption to the natural terrain. The front of each cabin is covered in smoky one-way mirror glass which creates a simple but effective camouflage into the landscape while providing guests with uninterrupted views.
Inside, meanwhile, the cabins are divided into two longitudinal strips with the bathroom and kitchen on the back allowing the living and sleeping areas to enjoy the expansive views of the mountain ranges courtesy of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Simple steel frames are set atop stone bases, which were built using locally sourced and environmentally friendly materials. Each cabin features a living roof and wastewater recycling system.
MAPA said of its cabin preference: "The hotel substitutes the concept of contiguous rooms for exclusive cabins scattered through the landscape."
