More prize money for Wimbledon winners
The All England Club has announced that the winners of this year's Wimbledon men's and ladies' singles championships are to net £1.1m in prize money - up £100,000 on last year.
Total prize money for the 125th Championships at the London venue - to be held between 20 June-3 July - has been increased by 3 per cent to £14.6m. All England Club chair Philip Brook said: "In the competitive world of top level sport, it is important that we offer prize money which suitably rewards the players both for the box office appeal they bring to the event and for their supreme performances on court"
Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Wimbledon's new Number Three court - a 2,000-seat stadium equipped with Hawkeye technology - and Number Four court will open this year. Wimbledon's overall capacity has increased by 1,000 to 38,500, compared with 2010, while the All England Club has secured new deals with Sony, Lavazza and Jacob's Creek.
