Morphosis to design surrealistic landmark at infamous Hollywood haunt
Morphosis Architects have been selected to design a surrealistic complex on the site of the infamous Viper Room, a club formerly co-owned by Johnny Depp and patronised by numerous Hollywood celebrities.
Recently released renderings for the project show a tapered, C-shaped building and a tower covered in greenery. The two structures – set to occupy a tract of land on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles – are connected by a sloping park with tree-lined walkways and open recreational areas.
According to WeHoville, the development will rise 15 storeys and accommodate a 115-room hotel and 31 condos, as well as a gym, spa, and revitalised Viper Room, plus multiple retail and dining outlets.
Morphosis outvied 12 architecture firms to win the design contract from Silver Creek Development, the LA-based real estate firm spearheading the property’s transformation.
The company reportedly purchased the The Viper Room and the surrounding blocks in July for US$80m (€70m, £62.7m).
A representative of Morphosis told CLAD that the project is still in its preliminary stages; consequently, details about its completion date have yet not be announced.
