National media profile for the register increases
National media interest in the Register of Exercise Professionals continues to grow following a full page article in The Times newspaper on 31 January, 2004.
The feature, entitled Are They Fit to Train You?, lead with the news that Britain has become the first country in the world to regulate its fitness industry.
The highly positive article included contributions from John Greenway, shadow minister for culture, media and sport and chair of the REPs and Cliff Collins, the REPs Registrar. It reached over 700,000 people and resulted in a surge of calls and emails to the REPs from members of the public and unregistered instructors wanting to know more.
January also saw plenty of coverage for the REPs in regional newspapers, which coincided with over a dozen local radio features about the national Register.
Cliff Collins said: “Media profile for the REPs is reaching new levels – the public is keen to find out more about the register and how it positively affects the standards of instruction in the leisure industry.
“In addition to the coverage we have received in newspapers and on radio, many of the glossy consumer magazines will be including items about the REPs in the coming months.”
