New UN initiative to nurture future sports leaders

By Tom Walker    01 Sep 2015
The programme aims to promote global sport development in countries where sport is underdeveloped

Young people working in grassroots sports projects in developing countries are being offered an opportunity to become future sports leaders thanks to a new United Nations initiative.

The United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) has teamed up with the Dream Together Master Programme in Seoul, Republic of Korea to give young people the opportunity to complete a master’s degree in sport management.

The Dream Together programme aims to promote global sport development through training those who will lead sport in countries where sport is underdeveloped.

It also intends to consolidate international sport cooperation via global networking.

UN’s special adviser on sport and development, Wilfried Lemke, said: “Every investment made into youth and the development of their talent and skill pays off with tangible positive effects at the community level and beyond.”

Operated by the Global Sport Management Graduate Programme at Seoul National University (SNU), the Dream Together scheme is funded by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism through the Korea Foundation for the Next Generation Sports Talent using national sports promotional funds, in cooperation with the Korean Olympic Committee (KOC).
