Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson has officially opened a new six-lane Mondo athletics track at Kirkby Sports College - funded by NHS Knowsley and Knowsley Council.

The venue will be used by the Romanian Paralympic team as its pre-Games training camp in 2012, with other facilities including two sports halls and a fitness suite. Thompson said: "I hope that the facilities offered here will help to inspire people to take up sport, achieve their goals and possibly produce future Paralympic and Olympic medallists."
