New management plan for Edinburgh WHS
A revised management plan for the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site (WHS), which covers the period between 2011 and 2016, has been officially unveiled.
The City of Edinburgh Council; Historic Scotland; and Edinburgh World Heritage drew up the new document, which followed an extensive consultation involving local stakeholders.
An initial management plan was published in 2005 and the latest one outlines key aims over the next five years, including the conservation of the WHS and restoration of monuments.
Other objectives include the enhancement of the WHS' public realm and work to ensure a sustainable living community within its boundaries, as well as effective management.
Council leader Jenny Dawe said: "This revised management plan will help the council and its partners to conserve and promote the WHS's intrinsic qualities for generations to come."
