New plan to develop Dublin's cruise market
By Pete Hayman 30 Jun 2011
Dublin's cruise industry already generates EUR50m each year
New plans drawn up by Dublin City Council (DCC) to further develop the Irish capital's cruise liner market - already worth EUR50m (£45.2m) a year - has been unveiled.
The Dublin Cruise Traffic and Urban Regeneration Plan (CTUR) was launched onboard the Crown Princess in order to make Dublin more attractive to operators. Ireland's minister for transport, tourism and sport, Leo Varadkar, together with the city's Lord Mayor Gerry Breen and Dublin Port Company representatives attended the launch.
Breen said: "The plan features a dedicated terminal for cruise ships near the city centre, and makes the port area an appealing public space in its own right." Image: The Aurora liner in Dublin – Gerald England
