The government of Hungary is to contribute 10bn forints (£31.4m, US$50.6m, 36.4m euro) to help the football team Debrecen build a new stadium.

According to the Associated Press, the spokesperson of Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Peter Szijarto, said that the funds would be given to a company to be set up by the state and city of Debrecen.

The 20,000-capacity stadium will have covered seating and is due to open in 2012.

The team currently has to play its international matches in Budapest as its current stadium is not approved by UEFA.
