North Kensington set for new leisure centre
The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC) has started a search to find a location for the development of a leisure centre in North Kensington, London.
Cabinet members met to discuss the proposals on 25 March, which aims to progress plans for a secondary school and a leisure facility, which would replace an existing complex. One of the proposals being considered is delivering the Kensington Academy on external sports pitches and car park at the council-owned existing leisure centre.
Another option includes a larger development at the leisure centre site, which would cover the entire leisure centre site and would see a new school and replacement complex built. RBKC leader Merrick Cockell said: "We have ambitious plans for North Kensington and chief amongst these is to build a fine new secondary school.
"I know from experience the challenges we will face building a school in such a densely populated borough. This is why we must consult thoroughly with local people and reassure ourselves that any site we choose is the right one."
