Nuffield Health reveals new 'fitness map'
Healthcare charity Nuffield Health has unveiled its new 'UK fitness map', which has found that people living in Bloomsbury and Wimbledon, London are the healthiest in the country.
The Health MOT was shaped using data gathered from around 40,000 people who wish to boost their fitness, with the document also mapping the areas with the highest obesity levels.
Nuffield Health has found that after Bloomsbury and Wimbledon, Bristol was ranked as the third healthiest location ahead of Covent Garden and the City of London.
Meanwhile, the data showed that 36 per cent of men and 31 per cent of women in Glasgow are classified as obese; 6 per cent of Glaswegian women are classified as morbidly obese.
Hull and Nuneaton were second and third respectively for areas with the most obese men, while Worcester and Nuneaton were second and third respectively for obese women.
Nuffield Health's MOT found that the town which represents the average level of fitness in the UK was Newbury, Berkshire, with an average Body Mass Index of more than 25.
"Obesity is a growing problem in the UK which must be tackled to ensure people live healthier and longer lives," said Dr Sarah Dauncey, Nuffield Health's medical director for wellbeing.
"Nuffield Health's MOT considers various factors including sleep, smoking habits, blood pressure and cholesterol levels as well as Body Mass Index - these are all important in testing levels of wellbeing."
