Ohm Fitness opens first EMS studio – plans 45 US locations over three years
Ohm Fitness, a new franchised studio concept, has opened its first location in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Delivering small group workouts using electrical muscle stimulation (EMS), Ohm offers 25-minute, low-intense workouts which, it says, have the same benefits as two-hour "traditional" exercise sessions.
Ohm Fitness uses its own proprietary wearable technology and software – called the EMPower suit.
Speaking to HCM, Ohm co-founder, Doug Payne – a serial franchiser who previously worked in IT at Orangetheory and Massage Envy – said: "The wireless EMPower suit is made out of breathable fabric, similar to a wetsuit. Thirty pads are sewn into it to communicate directly to the muscles.
"What sets OHM Fitness apart is our ability to deliver a wireless customised EMS experience in a small- to mid-sized group setting."
Ohm offers three 25-minute EMS classes – 'strong vibrations', 'sculpt and sweat' and 'stretch and flow'.
Payne says the plan is to have 45 locations in the US by the end of 2023 – and then expand further.
"We expect to develop 35 locations in Arizona alone over the next 3-5 years and well over 150 locations nationwide," he said.
The first Ohm Fitness studio occupies a 2,000sq ft space.
