Olympic chiefs unveil Hockey Centre pitch
The organisers of the 2012 Games have unveiled the main competition pitch at the Hockey Centre, which will host Olympic Hockey and seven-a-side Paralympic football events.
The London 2012 Organising Committee (LOCOG) also confirmed that, in addition to the blue and pink pitch surface, a yellow ball will be used in hockey events for the first time.
London 2012 is to be the first time that Olympic Hockey and Paralympic Football matches will have taken place on a non-green surface in a bid to provide greater contrast.
Following completion of the main pitch, it is expected that the hockey warm-up pitch will be completed in early November. It will also be used for five-a-side Paralympic Football.
Work on the construction of stands and infrastructure at the temporary stadium will begin in early 2012, with the Games-time capacity to be 16,000 spectators.
