Outdoor visitor attractions and theme parks in the UK to reopen on 12 April

Most outdoor attractions in England – including zoos and theme parks – will be allowed to reopen their doors on 12 April.

Announcing the government's reopening roadmap for the country today (22 February), Prime Minister Boris Johnson also revealed that, from 12 April, people will be able to go on holiday with their own household – as long as it is to self-contained accommodation, such as holiday lets and camp sites.

This will further bolster attractions businesses – especially those with a self-contained accommodation element.

Indoor attractions, restaurants, entertainment venues and cinemas, however, will have to wait until 17 May until they can begin accepting guests – although restaurants can offer takeaway services until then.

Making the statement on reopenings, Johnson added that the dates aren't set in stone and that the government reserves the right to change them at any time, should the landscape regarding the pandemic take a turn to the worse.

"In implementing this plan we will be guided by data, not dates, so that we do not risk a surge in infections that would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS," Johnson said.

"For that reason, all the dates in the roadmap are indicative and subject to change.

"The decision will be based on four tests – that the vaccine deployment programme continues successfully; evidence shows vaccines are sufficiently effective in reducing hospitalisations and deaths in those vaccinated; infection rates do not risk a surge in hospitalisations which would put unsustainable pressure on the NHS; and our assessment of the risks is not fundamentally changed by new Variants of Concern."
