United Soccer League (USL) franchise Arizona United Soccer Club has revealed plans to build a new stadium for 2017 – and changed its name to Phoenix Rising Football Club.

The club is working with Native American group Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community (SRPMIC) and development company Solanna Group to create a 15.8 acre training and stadium facility in McClintock, just outside Phoenix, Arizona.

According to Solanna Group chief executive David Fordon, the venue will be a “state-of-the-art, FIFA-compliant” stadium.

He added that it will make a “significant contribution to the economic growth of the community”.

Berke Bakay, Phoenix Rising FC governor, said: “These planned investments should serve as proof that we are serious about creating a successful soccer franchise in our state.

“We seek to prove that the Valley of the Sun can deliver a successful USL team and eventually compete at the highest levels of soccer.”

To capitalise on the new stadium and rebrand, Phoenix Rising FC has entered a partnership with the Arizona Youth Soccer Association (AYSA) to develop football for young people in the state.

“Phoenix Rising FC is very interested in the development of the next generation of male and female soccer players,” said head coach Frank Yallop. “In fact, the club just re-signed last year’s team captain Blair Gavin, who is a product of an AYSA team.”
