Pirates of the Caribbean reopens in Florida
The famous Pirates of the Caribbean boat ride that inspired the movie of the same name is to reopen on 7 July at Walt Disney World, Florida, only this time it’s the movie that has inspired the ride.
The relaunch coincides with the opening of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest starring Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightley.
The updated ride will feature the characters from the films Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Depp, and Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, adding a new twist to the attraction’s original storyline.
The rival pirates will be seen interacting with some of the 120 existing audio-animatronics characters and will also feature Davy Jones from the new movie, as well as additional special effects.
Jay Rasulo, chair of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts said: “Successfully adding the popular characters from the Pirates of the Caribbean films to the mythology of our classic attraction will result in an exciting new chapter for the ride and an unforgettable experience for our guests.”
The attractions at both Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California closed in March to make the changes. The Disneyland version reopened on 26 June.
The original Pirates of the Caribbean opened at Disneyland in 1967 and was the last attraction personally supervised by Walt Disney before his death in 1966.
