RFL to launch wheelchair coaching course
The Rugby Football League (RFL) has announced plans to launch a UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC) Level 1 course for wheelchair rugby league in November.
Disabled and non-disabled candidates will be able to participate on the two-and-a-half-day course, which aims to increase the number of coaches and is being partly funded through Sport England's Whole Sport Plan. Vinny Webb, the RFL's head of coach development, said: "Since England's success in winning the Wheelchair Rugby League World Cup last year in Australia the number of people playing the sport has increased dramatically.
"Under our community strategy we are looking for a 50 per cent increase in the number of coaches between now and 2012 at all levels, including Wheelchair Rugby League." The course, which costs £90 compared with the standard cost of £130 as a result of Sport England funding, will focus on understanding and implementing rules, while also dealing with specific matters relating to wheelchair players.
