Refurbished Camden fitness centre reopens
Mornington Sport and Fitness Centre in Camden, North London, has reopened to the public, following the completion of a major £650,000 scheme to improve the facility.
Camden Council and operator Greenwich Leisure (GLL) worked in partnership on the project, which included the creation of a new fitness area with easy line facilities for elderly residents and people with disabilities. The centre now boasts a total gym space of 510sq m (5,490sq ft) - comprising a 146sq m (1,572sq ft) upper area and a 364sq m (3,918sq ft) basement area - equipped by Technogym and boasting more than 100 stations.
Improvement work also included the addition of The Zone, a new purpose-built activity area for young people boasting virtual technology football, basketball and a techno-gym with equipment supplied by Veqtor. Camden Council's executive member for culture, Flick Rea, said: "One of the most exciting features at Mornington is The Zone, which will provide fun and challenging activities for young people.
"This unique setting is really enjoyable for children, while helping them to keep fit and healthy. The centre has also been specially adapted to help elderly residents and people living with physical disabilities to exercise."
