Revamp planned for Clitheroe Castle and Museum
Ribble Valley Borough Council is spearheading a £3.2m heritage project to turn Clitheroe Castle and Museum in Lancashire, UK, into a 17,000-capacity visitor attraction.
The Clitheroe Castle Heritage Scheme plans to construct a glass atrium to link the existing museum and north west sound archives to a new exhibition space, interactive display facilities, an education suite and a café. Planning and listed building applications will be lodged later this year.
In addition, amenities recently built in the grounds include Lancashire’s first public labyrinth, which opened earlier this month. The facility was designed by land artist Jim Buchanan in collaboration with Ribble Valley community groups and schools. The labyrinth complements the £80,000 community garden also constructed in the grounds in June.
A £200,000 skate park – funded by the Lancaster Foundation – also opened in the grounds in May.
Funding sources include a £2m Heritage Lottery Fund grant. Details: www.ribblevalley.gov.uk
