Rochdale council plans upgrade of leisure facilities
Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council is upgrading a number of local, council-owned leisure centres in a drive to improve the area’s leisure facilities.
Work is currently underway on an estimated £40,000 upgrade project at Heywood Sports Complex.
The project will cover renovations and new Life Fitness equipment in the centre’s 25-station gym. Other facilities at the site include a 25m pool, a four-court multi-purpose sports hall, floodlit outdoor artificial pitches and a community IT room.
The upgrade work is due for completion in August/September.
The Heywood project follows recent upgrades at two nearby leisure centres. Central Rochdale Leisure Centre’s 32-station gym re-opened in late April following a £50,000 refurbishment.
Middleton Leisure Centre’s upgraded gym – also offering 32 stations and also costing £50,000 – re-opened in June. Both were supplied by Life Fitness, receiving CV and strength training equipment.
Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council is already planning further improvements for Middleton Leisure Centre and Heywood Sports Complex, with a development programme to extend both sites scheduled within the next two years.
