Schlitterbahn announces Kansas site details
US-based water park operator Schlitterbahn has announced detailed plans for its fourth site, currently under construction in Kansas City, Kansas, US.
The Schlitterbahn Vacation Village will be a US$750m (£459m, 586m euro), year-round resort comprised of a large, central water park, a range of dining options, entertainment venues and 190,000sq ft of retail space, all connected by "Transportainment" – a system of manmade rivers which will carry guests around the complex.
Accommodation at the resort will be provided by more than 1,100 family lodges, a full-service hotel, waterfront cabins, and the Treehaus Resort with elevated pods – all integrated within waterpark attractions. park.
Rides at the water park, called Schlitterbahn Water Resort, will include the Torrent Tidal Wave River, powered by a 25,000 gallon, 20-foot-wide, tidal wave that races through more than 1,620 feet of waterway making it on of the longest attraction of its kind in the world.
Special attractions include a 65-foot, 16-car, operating Ferris Wheel, two 16,000 gallon aquariums and a SkyVenture, offering guests a controlled flying experience.
The Kansas project is Schlitterbahn's first park outside of Texas, where it currently operates three waterparks – Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark, South Padre Island; Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark, Galveston Island; and the flagship Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, New Braunfels.
Family-owned and operated, Schlitterbahn Waterparks opened its first site in New Braunfels in 1979.
