Luton Town to apply for stadium planning permission this summer
Luton Town Football Club will apply for planning permission to build its ambitious stadium and mixed-use development this summer ahead of the 2016/17 season.
The League Two club has identified two site – Power Court and Newlands Park – as the location to build two developments. The Power Court proposal includes the football stadium and “other supporting uses”, while Newlands Park will be the destination for offices, leisure and retail facilities which will financially facilitate the construction of the stadium.
A public consultation on the plans will begin in May where local residents will be able to view 3D models of the site and CGI representations.
Luton Town chief executive Gary Sweet said the plans would “help enormously to invigorate our town and region”, adding: “Not only will this help create a more attractive place to live, work and play but the economic impact will be significant for both our town and club.”
The plans are part of a wider £1.5bn regeneration project happening in the Bedfordshire town.
