Jeremy Corbyn appoints new shadow sports minister
Dr Rosena Allin-Khan, the Labour MP for Tooting, has been appointed as shadow sports minister in Jeremy Corbyn’s latest cabinet reshuffle.
Labour deputy leader Tom Watson has also been handed the shadow secretary of state role for Culture, Media and Sport following Corbyn’s re-election as leader of the party in late-September.
Allin-Khan was only elected as a member of parliament earlier this year when she won a by-election for the seat of Sadiq Khan, who vacated to become Mayor of London.
She will now shadow sports minister Tracey Crouch, who is currently overseeing the implementation of the government’s Sporting Future sport strategy, and replace Clive Efford in the role.
“As a keen boxer, I was honoured to be asked to become shadow sports minister by Tom Watson,” she said via Twitter.
Watson himself used to be a member of the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee.
