Six Senses will operate one of two luxury hotels and a Six Senses Spa within a mixed-use development called Hatai in the Silom area of Bangkok, Thailand.

Owned by Narai Hospitality Group, the site used to be home to the original Narai Hotel but is now being transformed by Heatherwick Studio into a building shaped like a series of stacked Thai lanterns.

This is Heatherwick’s first project in Thailand.

There will be a smaller Narai Hotel, in addition to the Six Senses Bangkok, offering approximately 300 rooms in total when the development opens in 2028. This will be shortly after what would have been the original Narai Hotel’s 60th anniversary.

On the ground floor below the hotels and their facilities will be a public village with a green canopied plaza. Native plants and a restored canal that connects to the Chao Phraya River will offer a space for calm and quiet in the city.

The property will also have a shrine, an open-air market, event spaces and a nursery.

The public space within the development will measure 5,300sq m, including elevated walkways.

Six Senses Bangkok

Six Senses Bangkok will have 100 rooms and a Six Senses Spa, complete with a combination of high tech, high touch treatments.

Integrated wellness offerings found at other Six Senses properties will also be on offer, including mindful sleep programmes and nourishing cuisine.

The project will meet the requirements for sustainable and healthy building design certifications LEED Gold and WELL Gold.

The original Narai Hotel’s wooden foundations have been extracted and will be repurposed within the interior design as per the Six Senses commitment to using local, sustainable and natural materials.

The hotel’s top floor will have a suite measuring 700sq m and a signature restaurant – both of which will be designed by Joyce Wang.

The interior design for the hotel will be by BAR Studio.

The main restaurant will connect to a sky lobby via a sky garden with biophilic design features and there will also be a rooftop pool and a number of wellness spaces throughout the hotel.

Neil Palmer, COO of Six Senses, said: “It’s a privilege to honour the legacy of Narai Hotel in such a culturally significant and storied location. Together with Narai Hospitality Group, we’re creating something truly special, a place that respects its history while embracing signature wellness, crafted experiences and sustainable design and operations – all defining characteristics of the Six Senses core ethos.”

The Six Senses portfolio

Six Senses Bangkok will become the third facility operated by the brand in Thailand, following Six Senses Samui and Six Senses Yao Noi.

Hotels further abroad have been announced in London, Milan, Lisbon, Dubai and Tel Aviv.
