Budget health and fitness operator Fitness4Less has bought the Fitness First gym in Newport, south Wales, for an undisclosed sum through property agents Christie + Co.

The gym is to undergo a refurbishment programme before reopening in the autumn and will be the company's fifth site. The purchase follows a recent transaction in Watford and is the group's first operation in Wales. Fitness4Less is planning on opening a number of new gyms across the UK and is looking for suitable locations. With several sites under negotiation, target towns and cities include the likes of Brighton, Cambridge, Oxford, Gloucester and Swansea.

Second clubs for Birmingham and Bristol are also in the pipeline, together with specific locations within London and the home counties.
