South Dakota athletic facilities approved
Preliminary planning for three new athletic facilities at The University of South Dakota and South Dakota State University has been approved by the South Dakota Board of Regents.
The verdict means that the institutions can now push forward with the development of more detailed plans for the schemes, with cost estimates and location drawings to be drawn up. South Dakota State University is to build an indoor practice and human performance venue, as well as a 20,000-seat football stadium to replace its existing 50-year-old ground.
Meanwhile, The University of South Dakota is aiming to address scheduling conflicts and overcrowding at its Dakota Dome complex through an extensive renovation. Jack Warner, executive director and chief executive officer of the Regents, said: "It is the board's clear expectation that private donations and sponsorships will pay the full cost of constructing these facilities, if they are approved."
