Step into Messi’s boots at pop-up Champions League museum
A temporary Champions League museum and gallery has opened in Lisbon in the run-up to the final of the prestigious football tournament being held in the city.
The UEFA Champions Gallery showcases more than 150 iconic photos from the history of the competition, while the UEFA Champions Museum will house a range of memorabilia – including match programmes from every previous final, the right boot and shirt Barcelona’s Lionel Messi wore during the 2009 final, and Eusébio's jersey from the 1963 decider won by AC Milan.
The gallery is located at Paços do Concelho in Lisbon City Hall and the museum in Sala do Risco in Páteo da Galé. Both will be open until Sunday 25 May, the day after the final between Real Madrid and Atlético.
It is another example of the recent trend of “pop-up” attractions. A piece of graffito by the popular street artist Banksy was recently removed within hours of being found and put on paid display by a community centre in Bristol. In the same city, a 90m waterslide proved to be a popular attraction when it was installed for one day on 4 May.
Montreal-based design group Daily Tous Les Jours’ 21 Swings installation also proved popular. The attraction featured swings that generated musical notes when people used them.
