Google Fit 'set to rival' Apple's HealthKit platform
Google is preparing to launch a system to rival Apple’s HealthKit fitness platform, according to reports within the technology sector.
Reports from both Forbes and The Tech Times suggest that Google has been developing its idea since learning about the intentions of Apple and Samsung to release their HealthKit and SAMI concepts.
The potential introduction of Google Fit is being seen as a move to ensure that the company doesn’t get left behind in the scramble for dominance in the wearable fitness technology and health data collection markets.
If the reports are true, more clarification on Google’s plans could be made at the Google I/O conference in July.
What is known is that Android, a Google product, is planning to launch a range of Android Wear-based smart watches, though none of these have any connection to health and fitness monitoring.
However, given their release date is someway in the future, the company could quite easily add health and fitness options to the hardware before launch.
Google may need to move quickly though, given that Apple is about to launch part of its HealthKit platform, while the oft-discussed "iWatch" could be introduced by as early as October.
