Women in Sport plans campaign strategy
The Women’s Sport Foundation has announced a range of new campaigning activity for the coming year.
Formed 20 years ago, the Foundation was re-launched at the end of last year with a new logo and website.
As well as its currently available Women in Sport quarterly magazine, the charity will be launching three new campaign packs.
These will be an Olympic Pack, covering the history of women in the Olympics; a Women in Sport Support Pack with information on women’s body matters, barriers to participation and sponsorship, and a Women in Sport Funding Pack.
The organisation also aims to involve more grassroots supporters to raise the profile of women’s sport, a health campaign and an initiative focusing on the disparity in the way the media covers men’s and women’s sport.
Part of the latter idea involves pushing for the renewal of the BBC Charter – scheduled for 2006 – to include sport within its commitment to balanced and representative broadcasting.
WSF chief executive, Deborah Potts, said “As the only organisation in the UK solely committed to improving and promoting opportunities for women and girls in sport at every level and in all capacities, our vision is of a society which celebrates the diversity of women's and girl’s sport and enables them to benefit from, excel at and fulfil their potential through the sport of their choice.” Details: www.wsf.org.uk
