Stay in your lane: Ford proposes bed with automated 'steering' features
Global automobile company Ford has forayed into the sleep technology sector with its newest prototype: a "lane-keeping bed".
Designed to keep sleepers from 'colliding' by adjusting to their unconscious nocturnal movements, the bed incorporates that same nudging technology employed in Ford vehicles to guide drivers into correct lanes.
Using built-in pressure sensors and an integrated conveyor built, the bed gently manoeuvres restless sleepers away from one another.
In a statement, Anthony Ireson, director of marketing communications at Ford of Europe said:
"Lane-Keeping Aid in our cars can make driving easier and more comfortable. We thought that showing how similar thinking could be applied to a bed would be a great way to highlight to drivers a technology that they might not previously have been aware of."
The design concept is part of Ford's Interventions series, a brainstorming programme that uses insights from the automotive industry to address everyday issues.
