Bond museum planned for Illinois
A museum dedicated to the vehicles featured in the James Bond movies is to open in Momence, Illinois, US in 2012.
The 14,000sq ft (1,300sq m) Museum of Bond Vehicles & Espionage is being developed by a partnership between Momence, the Kankakee County Museum and the Ian Fleming Foundation - the Momence-based not-for-profit group that owns 32 vehicles featured in the Bond films.
Artefacts will include the Lotus Submarine Car used in The Spy Who Loved Me, the Aston Martin Volante seen in The Living Daylights, and 007’s BMW R 1200 C Motorcycle used in Tomorrow Never Dies.
Other exhibits will focus on espionage and Bond's cultural impact.
It is hoped that the museum - designed by Gensler, the international architecture firm - will help rejuvenate Momence. The city, 50 miles from Chicago, has a population of just 3,000 and the 20,000 expected visits to the museum year will certainly not hurt Momence's profile.
