Al Montazah Park becomes Sharjah's first waterpark
Sharjah has gained its first-ever waterpark, following the opening this week of the Al Montazah Park on Sharjah Flag Island in the United Arab Emirates.
The attraction has been introduced following the redevelopment of the previously named Al Jazeera Park, with the new site now offering three different sections for visitors.
Spread out over 126,000sq m (1,356,253sq ft), the site features a leisure park, green park and the Emirate’s first-of-its-kind waterpark, boasting four body slides and four tube slides.
The attraction is the product of investment from the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority, which has developed the park at a cost of Dh100m (US$27.2m, £16.3m, €19.6m).
Away from the water-based facilities, the green section of the Al Montazah Park includes an events facility, picnic areas, restaurants, cafes, a large boating lake and a mosque.
The site’s leisure offering will feature a video-games centre, a kart-racing track, football pitches and a toy train ride; however this section of the park is still in development.
