PolicyWell.com launches, providing ‘wellness score’ of US politicians
PolicyWell.com, a watchdog project from nonprofit group Wellness Warrior, has officially launched, and can be used as a tool for Americans to measure their legislators’ support – or lack thereof – of health and wellness legislation.
The initiative surpassed its US$20,000 (€17,940, £15,287) crowd-funding goal in August, and is on time with its goal of launching before the US election on Tuesday, 8 November.
The free online tool monitors US congressional and senate votes and provides a ‘wellness score,’ based on a 360-degree view of legislation that governs key wellness issues such as food justice, public health, sustainable food systems, unregulated toxins and natural resources.
“We read labels, we make healthy food and exercise choices, we make informed decisions for ourselves, our families and our communities based on the latest research and science...and yet we have reached a point in our culture where health outcomes for Americans are increasingly tied to income inequality and the decisions of a select few,” said Damon Cory-Watson, executive director of Wellness Warrior. “Government accountability in this area has finally arrived.”
