RGU’s £10.7m sports facility nears completion
The development of Robert Gordon University’s (RGU) £10.7m new sports facility is nearly complete.
Due to open to the public in January, the university’s development campaign for the sports centre exceeded £1.5m with donations from the Stewart Milne Group, Aberdeen City Council, Total E&P, The Balmoral Group, The Craig Group, The Robertson Trust and Gannochy Trust.
The centre will be open to students, RGU staff and the local community. It will feature a 25m swimming pool, a climbing covering three floors, a main hall, an activity hall and a cardiovascular suite.
Situated on the Garthdee campus, it will also boast a café bar and a glazed promenade linking the centre with the Aberdeen Business School and the Faculty of Health and Social Care.
There will also be additional facilities for occupational therapy, injury rehabilitation and advice on nutrition and exercise which will be available both for athletes and the wider community.
Director of sport at the RGU, Filippo Antoniazzi, said: “We are extremely grateful to the Aberdeen business community and the city council for their generous support and enthusiasm for what will be a fantastic facility for the north east of Scotland.” Details: www.rgu.ac.uk
