Tempe Museum closes for revamp
The Tempe Historical Museum in Arizona, US, is closing its doors to undergo a US$4.1m redevelopment.
Weddle Gilmore Architects (WGA) has been selected as the architectural consultant for the project which will see the main gallery and entrances completely refurbished.
According to museum officials, the redevelopment will redefine the exhibit area to feature flexible spaces with changing exhibits; integrate new technology with innovative interpretation; increase programming space; and create a children’s area that involves families and schools in historical and educational activities
WGA will be the principal consultant during the programming and design phases of the project and also will provide construction administration. Gyroscope has been chosen as the consultant on the design of the new exhibit gallery.
Los Angeles-based UrbanRock Design has been appointed to the design team for the museum. The company will also be responsible for incorporating public art into the project. Brignall Construction Company has been selected as the Construction Manager
Funded partly by capital monies set aside by the local government last year, the work is expected to be completed by Easter 2010.
