£13.5m Sparkhill pool plans move forward
Birmingham City Council's (BCC) cabinet has agreed to move forward with proposals for a new £13.5m swimming pool and leisure centre in the Sparkhill area of the city.
Members backed the launch of a competitive procurement process for the design, build and management of the new facility - part of the council's Pool Strategy. Facilities will include a 25m, six-lane pool with seats for 40 spectators; a 13m x 8m learner pool; a 150sq m (1,615sq ft) dance studio and a 70-station adult fitness suite.
A 20-station junior fitness suite; wet and dry changing provision and a reception area will be included as part of the complex, which will replace the Sparkhill Pool and Fitness Centre. Councillors are also hopeful that savings can be made from the original £13.5m estimate to carry out the development. The tender process will launch in July.
