The Luxury Collection celebrates Gritti Palace opening after 25m euro restoration

Starwood Worldwide has announced the reopening of The Gritti Palace in Venice, Italy following a multi-million euro restoration project to bring the historic property back to its original grandeur.

The Gritti Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice underwent a 15-month revamp as part of a larger strategy to invest over 150m euros in the restoration of Starwood's Luxury Collection Hotels in Europe.

Other renovated hotels include Hotel Alfonso XIII, Seville and Hotel Maria Cristina, San Sebastian which re-opened last year, as well as Prince de Galles in Paris which will re-open later this month.

The Gritti Palace has introduced Blu Mediterraneo Spa, a new and exclusive spa concept by Italian-based Acqua di Parma.

The spa is an intimate wellness haven offering guests complete relaxation, indulgent massages and pampering beauty treatments.

Set in natural, soothing tones with delicate gold accents, the spa features contemporary touches such as intricate Orsoni mosaics, opulent Murano glasses, exquisite Venetian floors and wenge wood that draw from ancient Italian craftsmanship.

Following the complete restoration, the hotel features 61 guestrooms and 21 suites, including suites with canal views. The interior design of signature suites is inspired by renowned personalities - such as Ernest Hemingway, Somerset Maugham and Peggy Guggenheim.

The two-storey Redentore Terrazza suite spans 818sq ft (76sq m) with a reception room, a spacious bedroom, a living room with dining area, and a rooftop terrace measuring featuring a spa pool, entertaining spaces and panoramic views of the lagoon and the city.

The interior design was undertaken by Donghia Associates, part of the Venetian fabric house Rubelli and is inspired by was inspired by its historical role as a private residence, a centre for celebration, and a patron of the arts.

The restoration also included environmentally-friendly measures such as the use of LED lighting throughout the hotel's public areas and guest rooms, the recycling of waste water and the replacement of windows to improve thermal and acoustic insulation.
