The Mongoose Twenty20 bat
The Mongoose cricket bat, designed specifically for Twenty20 cricket has been launched at the home of cricket, Lord’s.
The Mongoose is claimed to offer the batsman up to 20 per cent more power and a 15 per cent increase in bat speed when compared to a conventional bat.
The bat incorporates a shorter, more rigid blade with a longer, more flexible handle that is also said to provide better manoeuvrability.
The splice is incorporated into the handle, removing any dead spot from the hitting area, while the shoulders of the bat are more weighted towards the back of the blade.
Despite these changes, the MCC Laws sub-committee has confirmed that the patent-pending Mongoose bat is legal and suitable for use in all levels of cricket.
The bat has already made its first class debut under the guidance of former Australian international, Stuart Law (centre), against Durham on May 26th.
England international and Ashes winner, Ebony-Jewel Rainford-Brent (left) and her team-mate Laura Marsh (right) are also currently using the Mongoose in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 competition.
Due to its lighter weight, the Mongoose is said to be ideal for players of all abilities and juniors.
A long blade version of the bat, which also incorporates the splice within the handle, is also available.
