US Marine Corps museum to open in November
The National Museum of the Marine Corps will open in November this year in Quantico, Virginia, US.
Located on a 135-acre site 20 miles from Washington DC, the museum is a partnership between the United States Marine Corps and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation (MCHF).
The museum, designed by Fentress Bradburn Architects, will “honour all marines past and present, while recounting their rich and vivid history”.
Tanks, artillery, World War II aircraft as well as uniforms, medals and letters from the front line will be displayed in the 118,000sq ft (11,000sq m) museum. There will also be an exhibition of more than 1,800 photographs and illustrations.
After the November opening, a second phase of development will begin, including the introduction of an IMAX cinema and hotel.
The MCHF is raising the funds for the museum, while the Marine Corps is providing the land and funding the exhibits. Details: www.usmcmuseum.org
