Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust (WLCT) has been appointed by Cannock Chase Council (CCC) to operate local facilities and services from February 2012.

Members of the council's cabinet selected the trust on 17 November, following a open and competitive procurement process which commenced in January.

It is expected that more than £2m will be invested in leisure and cultural facilities during the 10-year lifespan of the contract, while also reducing the cost to local taxpayers.

CCC culture and sport leader Christine Mitchell said: "Working with a partner to deliver our culture and leisure services will see significant investment and security for our facilities in future years, while also reducing the cost of these to taxpayers in the district."
