BHF aims to get children Well Fit
The British Heart Foundation (BHF) has launched a new campaign aimed at raising fitness levels in young people.
Called ‘Well Fit’, stars backing the campaign include Rachel Stevens, McFly and Will Young.
A free booklet called Get Kids on the Go can be downloaded from the BHF website which offers advice for parents on simple ways to motivate their children to be more active. The booklet includes family activities, informal methods of exercise and parents becoming role models through their own exercising.
There are also two interactive websites which young people can visit at www.yheart.net and www.cbhf.org.uk in order to learn more about maintaining their health and fitness levels.
According to recent BHF research, only 13 out of 20 children are currently getting sufficient exercise to reduce their risk of developing heart problems in later life.
Chilldren’s resources manager at the BHF, Deborah Allen, said: “The BHF is working hard to ensure today’s young people don’t become tomorrow’s heart attack victims. Every parent has a key role to play. Exercise is fun as well as being vital for a healthy heart and we want to help parents get their children Well Fit!” Details: www.bhf.org.uk
