Welsh Assembly boost for Swansea schemes
A planned multi-million pound renovation of Swansea's Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is one of three schemes in the city to benefit from Welsh Assembly Government funding.
The art attraction will be handed £300,000 through the Regeneration Area initiative, which is to go towards improvements to the condition of the building and the care of its collections. Meanwhile, £135,000 will ensure the completion of a second phase of landscaping works at Swansea Castle - due to open to the public for the first time in 40 years next month.
A £150,000 grant has also been awarded to the redevelopment of the Hafod Copperworks - a former industrial site earmarked for a commercial, residential and retail overhaul. Huw Lewis, housing, regeneration and heritage minister, said: "Swansea is steeped in history, from its ancient castle to the more recent industrial past. Preserving this heritage is a major factor in regenerating the city."
