Welsh women's football league kicks off
Aberystwyth Town Ladies Football Club and Llanidloes Town Ladies Football Club have taken part in the first game of the inaugural Welsh Premier Women's Football League season.
The Football Association of Wales has provided funding to set up the new eight-team league, which boasts four clubs from Mid and North Wales and four clubs from South Wales. It is hoped that the competition will help to boost women's football in Wales, with the champions set to receive £8,000 in prize money and a place in the 2010-11 UEFA Women's Cup.
In addition to Aberystwyth Town Ladies and Llanidloes Town Ladies, the league includes Wrexham Ladies and Caernarfon Town Ladies from the Mid and North half of the competition, as well as Manorbier Ladies; UWIC Ladies; Swansea City Ladies and Newcastle Emlyn Ladies.
