As it celebrates its 40th anniversary, West Midland Safari and Leisure Park in the UK has unveiled redevelopment plans which it hopes will propel it from a three-star day attraction to a four-star resort of national significance.

The Worcestershire park has set out plans to create a 250-bed hotel, a conference centre for 1,000 delegates, an indoor waterpark, a rail halt and a monorail link. There will also be a multi-million pound upgrade of the safari drive.

The park currently welcomes 1.3million visitors a year, but it is hoped the redevelopment would attract thousands more. The attraction, which is home to the UK's only pride of white lions, has scored a number of firsts in its history, including the UK's first lemur walk-through exhibit and first drive through dhole, African wild dog and Indian rhino reserves.
