World Outdoors Summit 2013 to be held in Rotorua, New Zealand
A global summit evaluating the value of the outdoors to society will be held in Rotorua, New Zealand, later this year, with a focus on the outdoor education, outdoor recreation and adventure tourism sectors.
Hosted by Outdoors New Zealand (ONZ) the World Outdoors Summit is held every three to four years, and this year will be held 18-22 November.
Organisers note environmental, cultural and economic factors are placing pressure on the outdoors and the purpose of the summit is for the global outdoors community to share, discuss and present how to overcome those challenges.
The planning committee are currently seeking presentations on outdoor education, outdoor recreation, adventure tourism, sustainability and environment and risk and safety management, with submissions closing 1 April.
Speakers already selected to present at the summit include outdoor education researcher Dr Robyn Zink, indigenous outdoor education consultant Dr Ihirangi Heke, education consultant Ngahi O Te Ra Bidois, and general manager of the Te Arawa Sports Foundation Paora Te Hurihanganui.
The summit will include keynote presentations, panel discussions, workshops and discussion groups, outdoor sessions, activities, exhibitions, and an awards gala dinner and it is expected 350 delegates will attend.
