Istanbul commissions new museum inside Topkapi Palace
A museum planned for Istanbul, Turkey, is in progress and will be built in an existing park in the grounds of the city’s famous Topkapi Palace.
The Istanbul City Museum will document the story of the city through the last eight millennia, detailing its unique role on the border of both the Asian and European continents.
The 38,000sq m museum has been designed by local studio Salon Architects, who have envisioned a anodised metal and glass veil around the building that will change continuously as it reflects the surrounding landscape and weather.
The Istanbul City Museum is overseen by the city’s Metropolitan Municipality. The attraction will include outdoor performance space, a library, cafeterias and a temporary exhibition hall. The cantilevered museum building will spiral around an open central courtyard where exhibits and installations may take place.
