The new Water Polo Arena, which is to stage men's and women's water polo events during the London 2012 Games, has become one of the last Olympic Park venues to be completed.

Built in just 13 months, the 5,000-seat venue's design incorporates a silver-coloured wrap and an inflatable roof. After the Games, it will be dismantled and its elements reused across the UK.

The Water Polo Arena is sited to the east of the Olympic Park site and holds nearly 3 million litres (792,500 gallons) of water in the warm-up and competition pools.

ES Group built the structure, which was designed by a team led by David Morley Architects and involving Buro Happold and Max Fordham. Barr + Wray/A&T installed the pools.

ODA chief executive Dennis Hone said: "Completing the construction of the Water Polo Arena marks the end of the ODA's major venue work on the Olympic Park.

"As with all our venues, huge efforts have gone into both sustainability and ensuring we don't build venues that have no use after the Games."
