University of the Third Age (U3A) Foyle has announced the opening of Northern Ireland's first Active Ageing Centre, a physical activity and creative centre in Derry-Londonderry.
Located at the institution's Gransha Park home, the development was awarded nearly £490,000 by Sport Northern Ireland and an additional £181,000 by Arts Council Northern Ireland.
An extensive range of physical activity classes are on offer at the Active Ageing Centre, such as Movement to Music Exercise groups; Pilates; Tai Chi; bowling; and yoga.
The activities, which also include art classes, are designed for the over-50s. Funding has also provided by Ulster Garden Villages and Lloyds TSB Foundation for Northern Ireland.
Sport NI chief executive Eamonn McCartan said: "Sport Northern Ireland is delighted to see the official opening of this outstanding facility, particularly in the European Year for Active Ageing."
