Sheffield United plots residential development as part of stadium improvement works
Fans of Sheffield United Football Club will been given the opportunity to live on the site of its Bramall Lane stadium after the club submitted plans to build an attached residential development.
Architecture studio WCEC have designed the building, which is being earmarked for the Cherry Street/Shoreham Street Corner part of the site.
The development will include a new club shop on the ground floor – a space that is double the size of the club’s current retail outlet. A fan zone will also be included.
If the plan gets the go-ahead, the Sheffield United’s existing club shop will be converted into conference or event facilities.
Other stadium improvements being proposed as part of the project include: a 3,200-seat extension of the ground’s Kop stand with new roof and concourse; the creation of additional executive boxes within the John Street Corner Stand; and the improvement of the facade for the South Stand.
“The corner site we are developing could fulfil a dream for some of our supporters – a chance to live at the home of football,” said Sheffield United director Simon McCabe.
Sheffield United had worked with WCEC on a ground redevelopment project in 2006/07.
WCEC’s chief executive Ashley Turner added: “We take great pride in further enhancing what is an already superb venue.”
